Energy Types
In Human Design, there are five main energy types: Manifestors, Generators, Manifesting Generators, Projectors, and Reflectors. Each type has its own role and way of interacting with the world. There is no "better" or "worse" type; all are essential parts of the puzzle.
Manifestors: Designed to initiate and make things happen. They often work independently, bringing new ideas into the world. Manifestors thrive when they inform others before taking action. For manifestors, the Troath center is connected to one of the motor centers (Will, Emotional Solar Plex centers)
Generators: The life force of the world. Generators are here to respond to opportunities and experiences that align with their energy. They thrive when doing what they love and are driven by their gut response. For Generators, there is a defined Sacral center.
Manifesting Generators: A hybrid of Manifestor and Generator. Like Manifestors, they initiate, but they also have the energy of a Generator to respond. Manifesting Generators work best when they follow their gut and be able to move quickly. Their Sacral and Throat centers are defined.
Projectors: Guides and advisers. Projectors are here to lead others, but they need to be invited and recognized for their wisdom. They thrive in environments where their expertise is appreciated. The Sacral center is not defined, with no motor connection to the Throat.
Reflectors: Rare and highly sensitive. Reflectors absorb the energy of their environment and the people around them. They are here to reflect the health of their environment or community, and should give themselves time to make decisions. They do not have defined centers.
Key Message:
It’s important to remember that there is no superiority to any type, as each type plays a crucial role in the bigger picture of humanity. The true power lies in harmony between your body (design) and personality. It’s not about rigidly following your type but about finding synergy and balance so that all parts of your design work together. When this alignment happens, life flows naturally, and you experience the full potential of your design. The goal is to live your design, not just identify with it.
Human Design Energy Centers
Each energy center has its own function and related systems in the body, what can deteriorate if it does not operaiting or functioning well. Here is a short desctiption of the egenry centers, their purposes and how it expresses itself when its defined and when its undefined.
1. Head Center
Purpose: The Head Center is for inspiration, thoughts, and mental processing. It’s where ideas and questions arise, fueling your curiosity and creativity.
Defined: When defined, your thinking process is consistent, and you have a fixed way of processing inspiration and ideas.
Undefined: When undefined, your thinking is more open and influenced by others’ ideas, making you more flexible but also prone to mental overwhelm.
2. Ajna Center
Purpose: The Ajna Center governs conceptualization and mental clarity. It’s where you process and organize thoughts, ideas, and concepts.
Defined: When defined, you have a fixed way of thinking and understanding the world around you, offering clarity and certainty.
Undefined: When undefined, your understanding is more fluid, and you may struggle with doubt, but also have the ability to see multiple perspectives.
3. Throat Center
Purpose: The Throat Center is for communication and expression. It governs how you express yourself through words, actions, and creativity.
Defined: When defined, you have a consistent and reliable way of expressing yourself, and your voice carries a particular energy.
Undefined: When undefined, your expression is more adaptable, and it’s influenced by others, which can lead to inconsistency in how you communicate.
4. G Center
Purpose: The G Center governs love, identity, and direction. It’s where your sense of self and purpose resides. Where the Magnetic Monopole lives.
Defined: When defined, you have a consistent sense of self, direction, and identity, knowing who you are and where you're going.
Undefined: When undefined, your sense of self and direction is more fluid and influenced by the people and environments around you.
5. Will (Heart or Ego) Center
Purpose: The Will Center governs willpower, self-esteem, and material drive. It’s where motivation and desire for success reside.
Defined: When defined, you have a consistent sense of willpower and can be focused on achieving your desires.
Undefined: When undefined, you may struggle with self-worth and may feel a lack of drive unless you are in the right environment or with the right people.
6. Spleen Center
Purpose: The Spleen Center is for instinct, survival, intuition, and health. It’s where you process fears, health concerns, and survival instincts.
Defined: When defined, you have a reliable sense of intuition and instinct about what is good for your well-being.
Undefined: When undefined, you may feel more susceptible to fears or health issues and may absorb others' fears, but you can also be open to others' intuitive wisdom.
7. Sacral Center
Purpose: The Sacral Center governs life force energy, vitality, reproduction, and responsiveness. It’s the source of energy for work, creativity, and action.
Defined: When defined, you have a steady, reliable source of energy and are naturally responsive to life’s opportunities.
Undefined: When undefined, you may feel inconsistent energy levels and may need external stimulation or more rest to maintain vitality.
8. Emotional Solar Plexus Center
Purpose: The Solar Plexus Center governs emotions and emotional clarity. It’s where your emotional experiences and awareness reside.
Defined: When defined, you experience emotions consistently and have a strong emotional awareness, often guiding your decisions.
Undefined: When undefined, your emotions are more open to others, and you may absorb and amplify others' feelings, often making it difficult to separate your emotions from theirs.
9. Root Center
Purpose: The Root Center is for pressure, drive, and stress. It’s where you experience the pressure to act and the drive to get things done.
Defined: When defined, you have a consistent way of handling pressure and stress, and can maintain focus on deadlines and goals.
Undefined: When undefined, you may feel pressured by external expectations and have a more variable response to stress and urgency.
Understanding the 5 Different Definition Types
In Human Design, Definition refers to the way the energy centers in your chart are connected. It defines how energy flows and interacts within your system. There are 5 types of Definitions: Single, Split, Triple Split, Quadruple Split, and Undefined.
Here’s a summary of each, with key notes on their characteristics and importance:
1. Single Definition
What it is: In a Single Definition, all the defined centers in your chart are connected in one continuous flow, meaning the energy in your chart is consistently self-contained and coherent.
Why it’s important: This person’s energy is naturally whole and self-sufficient. They don’t require external influences to feel “complete,” and they typically make decisions internally, without needing external validation or influence.
Best environment: A Single Definition thrives in environments that are calm, stable, and free from distractions. They perform best when they have the space to focus and engage with their own energy.
2. Split Definition
What it is: A Split Definition occurs when there are two or more separate defined areas in the chart, but no direct connection between them. This creates a “split” in the energy flow.
Why it’s important: People with Split Definitions often feel like they are “split” or “incomplete” until they meet the right people who can connect these two areas. They rely on external interactions to bridge the gap between their centers.
Best environment: A Split Definition thrives in environments where they can interact with people who can help bridge the gap between their energy centers. This could mean collaborating with individuals who can provide the missing link or bringing together the right team for balanced energy flow. It’s key for them to engage with people who can provide the clarity or connection they are missing.
3. Triple Split Definition
What it is: A Triple Split Definition means there are three distinct areas of defined centers in the chart, and these areas are not connected directly to each other with a defined (coloured) channel.
Why it’s important: These individuals experience energy that is constantly fluctuating as they interact with different environments and people. Their energy is fragmented, and they may feel inconsistent until they find the right people or groups to “connect” the gap(s).
Best environment: People with Triple Split Definitions do best in dynamic, diverse environments where they can engage with a variety of individuals who can offer the connections and flow they need. They often thrive in a social or collaborative setting where different perspectives help them align their energy. They might feel that most of the time their clarity comes when they are in strangely busy places, like a cafe or a shopping mall.
4. Quadruple Split Definition
What it is: A Quadruple Split Definition is when there are four distinct, unconnected areas of defined centers in the chart. This is the most fragmented type of Definition.
Why it’s important: Individuals with a Quadruple Split often experience intense variability in their energy, as they need multiple interactions and connections to feel “whole.” Their energy is scattered, and it’s crucial for them to meet different people who can help connect the gaps.
Best environment: A Quadruple Split thrives in an environment that is highly dynamic and involves constant interaction with different types of people. The more diverse the connections and perspectives, the better they feel as their energy flows more naturally in these diverse settings.
5. Undefined (No Defined Centers)
What it is: In an Undefined Definition, the chart has no defined (colored) centers or the centers are undefined in specific places, meaning there is no stable or consistent energy flow in certain areas.
Why it’s important: People with Undefined Centers are deeply influenced by the environment around them. Their energy is more flexible and open, and they absorb and amplify the energy of others, which can make them highly adaptable but sometimes prone to confusion or conditioning.
Best environment: They do best in environments where they feel supported, calm, and able to process external energy without being overwhelmed. An environment with clear, stable energy and supportive, non-pressuring people is essential.
Key Notes About Definitions:
Awareness of Definition types helps individuals understand their inner energy flow and how they interact with others. It guides them in knowing whether they’re best off working solo (like a Single Definition) or with others to complete their energy flow (like a Split Definition).
People with Split, Triple Split, or Quadruple Split Definitions are best served by collaborative environments that foster connection and communication. They benefit from engaging with others who can bring their energy into harmony, offering complementary perspectives and ideas.
Understanding your Definition helps you recognize how you interact with the world and what kind of environment best supports your energy flow. Whether you are self-contained (Single Definition) or need external support to integrate your energy (Split/Triple/Quadruple), knowing this gives you the freedom to create environments that foster alignment and ease.
Understanding the Personality and Design Side in the Bodygraph
In Human Design, your Bodygraph is split into two parts: the Personality side and the Design side. These represent different aspects of who you are and how you interact with the world. Understanding how both sides work together helps you understand your true potential.
The Personality Side
The Personality side is the conscious side of the chart. It’s the part of you that you are most aware of, the qualities you know about yourself, and how your mind functions. It’s the black/dark/right side list of numbers of your Bodygraph, where the planets and nodes are listed. This is calculated from your date and time of your birth. This shows where the planets were located at the time of your birth, and how the neutrino stream imprinted your body with its energy. This is your personality crystal energy blueprint, the energetic qualities you and your crystal hold.
This side reflects the mind, and it’s shaped by the years of conditioning you’ve experienced, your upbringing, environment, and life experiences. It’s how you see yourself and how the world sees you.
However, the mind can trick you. It may make you believe you are something that you are not; this is called the Not-Self. The Not-Self is rooted in the undefined parts of your chart, where your mind thinks it needs something to feel complete but doesn’t realize that those parts are open to influence from others. The mind identifies with what is missing, creating false beliefs about who you are.
The Design Side
The Design side is the unconscious side of the chart. This side is imprinted by the Neutrino Stream approximately 88 days before birth, when your body was fully formed, and all your organs were ready for the personality crystal to settle. This side reflects your body, your instincts, and your natural design. It’s like your body's manual for how it functions best in the world. This is the energetic blueprint of your Design Crystal.
The Design side reveals how the body and mind should work together, how you interact with your environment, what kind of environment you operate the best, and what kind of food and conditions your body needs to thrive. It carries your true purpose and shows you the environment where your body can function optimally.
How the Personality and Design Work Together
While the Personality is shaped by your life experiences and is influenced by the environment you live in, the Design shows you what your body needs to operate at its best. The body, through the Design side, provides the foundation, allowing the personality to express itself fully.
The Personality side is how you consciously experience life, but the Design side guides the body and brain to function in harmony with the world. When you understand both sides and how they work together, you can align yourself with your true potential.
Why It’s Important to Know Both Sides
Understanding your Personality helps you see how your mind operates and how your environment may have shaped your beliefs, including those about your strengths and weaknesses.
Understanding your Design reveals the deeper, unconscious layers; how your body functions best, what kind of environment supports you, and how to nourish yourself physically and mentally.
When you align both the Personality and Design, you create harmony. The body and the mind work together instead of against each other, allowing you to live authentically without the confusion of the Not-Self. This is when your true potential can shine.
