Alertness & Awareness of Patterns

We are constantly surrounded by patterns — in our habits, our relationships, our thinking, our work. Most of the time, we don’t even notice them. They run quietly in the background, shaping our choices, emotions, and behaviour.
This week, the energy of Gate 44 invites us to see them — to become alert to what’s repeating, what’s familiar, and what’s asking to evolve.

Gate 44, known as The Gate of Alertness or Vigilance, lives in the Spleen Center and carries a sharp instinct for recognition. It’s the energy that knows what’s coming based on what’s already been — a deep awareness of patterns, timing, and potential.
It gives us the intuitive ability to sense what’s safe, who’s trustworthy, and what opportunities are worth pursuing.
When balanced, this energy helps us learn from the past and create something new from what we’ve already experienced.

But when we lose awareness, this same energy can hold us back — stuck in fear, old memories, or distrust.
According to the I Ching, Gate 44’s hexagram Coming to Meet reminds us that if we ignore what feels dangerous or unbalanced, we unintentionally give it more power. Awareness and conscious vigilance are what keep us aligned and safe.

I know this energy very well — it’s defined in my chart through my conscious Uranus, the planet of innovation, learning through detours, and teaching wisdom gained from mistakes.
I’ve always been sensitive to patterns — the invisible threads others may not see. I notice behaviours, repeated dynamics, words left unsaid. And interestingly, I’ve built much of my work around helping others become aware of these same things — teaching awareness, recognising conditioning, and breaking old cycles.

Yet, as human as everyone else, I sometimes miss my own patterns.
Our habits are so natural to us that they blend into who we think we are. But awareness changes everything. When we see our patterns, we don’t have to be ruled by them anymore — we can transform them into wisdom.

This week, use the energy of Gate 44 as an invitation to pause and reflect:
- What patterns are you repeating in thoughts, emotions, or relationships?
- What feels familiar but no longer serves you?
- What wisdom could you share with others from your lived experience?

When we learn from what’s already been, we build new pathways for what’s next.
And that’s the true power of vigilance — awareness that creates evolution.
